2. Poor Miwa in this episode, everyone was so horrible to her.
3. But why did the head nurse put Miwa in charge of Iinuma? That seems like a terrible idea to me. Does she actively want Tokai to find out?
4. Kurosaki remains hilarious :D
5. When Takashina saw the video camera at the end I wanted to yell at my screen! Aah! It's so unrealistic that Takashina could get a paper published that fast but I don't even care, I loved it.
6. I especially had to not yell at this episode because my husband was gaming in the same room and hasn't seen episode 8 yet, what a fake fan lol
7. Sera was so sneaky this week! Using his crying powers with Ikenaga and then connecting the Caesars. Good work Sera.

12: The more I watch it the more I don't understand where Tokai was running after Saeki collapsed. Miwa tells him about what happened, he runs off and then next scene he's lurking in the corridor and Miwa runs past him from a different direction? Where did he go?
13. Does Nishizaki want to be boss surgeon or does he want to eradicate all scalpels from the face of the Earth? Did a scalpel kill his parents or something?
14. Is Tokai the only one who actually read the whole Caesar manual? I guess remote operation wouldn't seem useful to anyone else though. (Although probably Saeki read it too so he could film Tokai? Well, I'm not sure how far his predictions really went.)
15. Headcanon: The reason Nishizaki keeps sounding out Takashina's name is to mock him for getting annoyed at people calling him "Takashima" instead.
16. The scene with Kuro and Takashina was unexpectedly sweet. :(
17. Lol those two other residents who are like "by the way, we're also great at everything".
18. Poor Neko, Tokai left her out of the loop for a lot of this episode.
19. Why did Kurosaki make Sera and Miwa go out in the rain to finish hearing the story?

23. Obviously the remote operation part does look like Nino gaming, but it really reminded me of the part in Galaxy Quest where the pilot relearns the controls for the ship.
24. It's weird/funny that Takashina didn't put Tokai's name as an author on that last paper, considering that it's literally... a paper about him operating on Saeki? With a video of him in it? But he's not listed under the surgery team acknowledgements, while Nekota and even Arai are. (And "Satoshi Ono" apparently helped to, haha.)

24. I also find it weird that Takashina didn't include Tokai's name in the paper. I actually checked the name list twice to make sure of it. Maybe Tokai didn't want his name to appear on the paper. However, this is like most of other instances where Tokai actually did the operation, but didn't get proper credits from both the doctors and the patients. I kinda feel sorry for him in that aspect. I am also really curious to know whether the staff who worked on the operation have an idea that it's Dr. Tokai who actually did the operation (Except Dr. Kurosaki who realized it while looking at Dr Takashina).

I really laughed when Tokai said that he lives in the hospital when he was asked to go home.(Bcz everybody knows he lives there. Lol) I am really curious to know why he lives in the hospital and never goes home. Maybe bcz it is easy to find out things if he stays in the hospital 24/7. Also, why didn't he go home and went to Sera's dorm instead? May be his home is far away?

I enjoyed Tokai being a more tough-love-centric Yoda towards Sera.

I think people suppose because Miwa is so biddable and gentle so far that they assume she's a pushover. But she may have a bite if pushed too far. I hope she does. She's not going to last very long if she lets everyone ride roughshod over her. For all I know, head nurse's decision to let Miwa care for Iinuma is to get into trouble in some way, and Miwa could bite back or something, I hope. Or head nurse could be deciding to screw Saeki since she's fed up of kowtowing to Saeki. For all we know, Saeki might be holding some kind of sword of Damocles over head nurse's head.

Tokai taught Sera the importance of playing the fool (a la Lear's Fool) when surrounded by people puffed up with self-conceit don't think they need to cover up their arses.

I personally like to think Nishizaki's sweets have laxatives in them put there by somewhere, and he's in the loo purging his insides out when we don't see him posturing about on-screen. Perhaps he'll cackle whilst sucking his sweet and then choke on it, and no one comes to aid because he's such a twat.

Perhaps the non-eating of vegetables gives Tokai an edge in surliness, makes him more churlish from the lack of fibre and constipation. Who really knows?

Yes, why was Tokai running after Saeki collapsed? Did he badly need to pee? Steal an apple/pear from some rich patient's fruit basket? Get to a better place to gloat that Saeki had it coming? Secretly eat a vegetable (like a carrot) while everyone is gone so that no one sees him di it?

Nishizaki's hatred for scalpels could be due to his somewhat wanting skill with that, or that pointy things like scalpels bother him since he knows subconsciously that he did not cover his arse all that well in his scheming. For all we know, he once picked one up by the sharp end and has conceived a hatred for scalpels ever since.

Saeki could be playing a deep and long game. He may have thought about all the eventualities. He has to if he's adept at playing politics and screwing people over while appearing the decent fellow.

Now, I think Neko was kept out of the loop possibly because Tokai didn't want to involve her in his revenge plot or whatever he is.

Kurosaki may have brought Miwa and Sera out in the rain to see the old uni hospital building, or simply because he wants to look cool in the rain by using the rain as a symbolism of his tears of regret that such a heinous thing as medical malpractice occurred. Or he just thought he looks cool in the rain.

Like you, I hope the next Surgery Society Chair is someone we've not heard of, preferably someone from a small, obscure uni hospital

Perhaps Takashina offered to put Tokai's name in the paper, but Tokai refused. Who really knows what's up with that.

You've got to love how Sera's main job is babysitting Tokai now.
Also, I hope no other patients need cardiac surgery because they weren't gonna get it.
I think Tokai ran to go see what happen, but he is so short we didn't notice him.
Something is suspicious about Tokai's father story. I don't think that the full story.
I think Takashina was respecting how Tokai feels about papers...

Wait a moment, I am coming on to something here.
Tokai is a skilled surgeon that conducted the uber hard to perform Saeki method while using the Caesar robot in a remote operation.
What if they name him the next Chair? He embodied both goals...

4 and 19. YES EXACTLY LOL tho corresponding to number 16, Kurosaki is actually an interesting character. Though I'm kinda can't accept how he shouted at Tokai about his dad in front of 2 unrelated people. I understand that he was at his limit thinking about Dr. Saeki's surgery at that moment, but it's still uncalled for. He labels Tokai Ichiro too much on his son imo.

6 and 23. Tell your husband that there's Tokai-sensei gaming on ep 9 and maybe, as a fellow gamer, he'll zoom right away to watch XD

7. The Caesar one was sooooooo sneaky! Love it!
And I also laughed so hard when Tokai-sensei said "You're an idiot, aren't you?" and Sera responded by answering "Yes" XDD

+. I love how Sera knows that Tokai-sensei has been 'manipulating' him yet he let himself being manipulated as he believes in Tokai-sensei's skill and attitude towards patients >v<
He reports everything he found to Tokai-sensei and is now casually chatting with him~!
(Feel sorry that he got ambushed in front of his dorm tho, like everyone would be surprised by that -- might even think that it's a ghost XD)

++. I really love Hashimoto Satoshi-san's acting on picturing Kurosaki-sensei in the operating room. His expression when realized that it was Tokai-sensei operating Dr. Saeki is really well-delivered!

2. Uhhhg I can't help but laugh and kinda pity Miwa when Nekota interrogated her. Just when she thought she was saved by the head nurse, it's as if her world crumbled when the head nurse started to do the same to her. LOL

3. The head nurse must have chosen Miwa since she knows something about the case already and she can easily threaten her. She's a new nurse, so it must be something to threaten her to lose her job if she talks about Iinuma.

I read all the spoilers after I watched the ep . You tell us the highlights of the week . Point 8 is hilarious but so true.
Every week is amazing - Thanks so much for subbing this- I will miss our dear Tokai.
This week we didnt had much of Neko-Tokai. But we had Tokai-Sera. Love it this par. So sweet Sera with Tokai. He let him stay in his apartment and prepare rice for him , I was expecting a complain form Tokai about the rice ( because isn't from his mother) but he didn´t said anything . He feel grateful towards Sera.
Also Tokai operate the cesar by remote and Sera playing fool to give access was the best.
I'm in shock they include Ono Satoshi but they didnt include Tokai even tho he was in a video . Lol
Kurosaki keeping his act after the Nino adlib is something to respect. I laughed so hard when Tokai said I live here.
I didnt like Miwa this week I know everyone were horrible with her, but she didnt said nothing to Neko why she said everything to the head nurse. And after that she was manipulated with silence or face the consequences. Not happy about that . Hopefully she rebels agains her in the finale.
Everybody acting fishy with Tokai dad something is not right in the situation. Why keeping the secret? And hiding Iinuma? Probably Saeki his paying him for keeping the silence. Who knows hopefully we will know the full story from tokai hands.
Im with you Still hoping the next chair of the Surgeon's Society is some random neurosurgeon or Takashina . If he can get his paper published so far he can be the next in the chair.
I not gonna complain if we had season 2 -this is too good for one season.

12. about Tokai running somewhere. I think, he was go to see Saeki and even waiting until operation is done. That is why he is standing on that corridor. Afterward, he is go to sakura hospital. otherwise, how could Sera arrive at sakura hospital not long after Tokai.

I like the scene when Sera is asked for being an idiot. it is hilarious how Sera answer "yes" on both of them. I also like when Takashina relay Tokai instruction on ope room.

By the way, how many episode left? 1 or 2? I can't get enough of Tokai, Sera and Neko. And about that black pean, I still don't get the back story.

Such a good episode. Takashina finally getting his act together. And. Nishizaki being totally taken down. Neko looked so clueless though.

And same, I was so pissed and was looking for Tokias name as well. I assumed he would be named instead of Saeki to be honest. Isn't the person who does the surgery/research who gets the credit. Especially since their is a video proof of Tokai doing the surgery. Clearly Saeki cannot operate on himself. How come he gets the credit?. I don't understand the logic of it at all.


And Tokai. Does he really not want any paper published in his name. He does such innovative stuff and that information should be passed on. Feels like it technically goes against his policy or saving lives. Or is there something that Saeki holds over him that doesn't allow for him to publish his papa's?


The head nurse is so scary. The way she intimidates Miwa to get the info for Saeki.


I really don't want the show to end but really want to know the deal with the black pean though.

Takashina's paper is probably case report. That's why it can be done quite quickly (with no sleep probably 😅).
Comparing Takashina on 1rst eps to this last eps, he looks older. Probably due to th stress of scentific paper conflicts and Tokai's antics. But I like he's the most well developed character in this drama.
While Tokai never change. He must be a vampire? 😂

Finally Takashina realized his value! But still, it's unbelievable how he managed to publish that paper in an instant! He must've worked so hard LOL I think Tokai's name should be in there too, or did he ask not to include his name on the paper?

Neko looks like a poor lost kitten in this ep, luckily she recovered during the operating scene. I love her! On the other hand, I think they put Miwa as the nurse for Iinuma bc she looks like she's the good and obedient kouhai who'll follow the head nurse's rules, the most likely to be used or to be bullied. //peace

I was also shocked to see Sera and Miwa, led by Kurosaki, out in the rain, in front of the old hosp building. Like wtf how did they even get there?! LOL

I've seen no one pointing this out, but doesn't SERA LOOK SOOOOO GOOD IN SMART CASUAL OUTFITS??? It's so refreshing to see him out of the scrubs and the white coat, I think the color blue suits him, and I'm falling in love with him (sorry Nino) HAHA

I would expect maybe Sekikawa or Kakitani to read the paper, since it's about Tojo, so they'd find out that way. Or one of the other residents might read it... probably the nurses wouldn't read it though? But yeah, I guess someone would read it and gossip about it eventually. Hmm.

Since Tokai keeps asking for money too, maybe he doesn't have another home to save money? I thought maybe he officially lives with his mother, but then it seems like she lives quite far away...

You're right, I hope there were no other emergencies with other patients while all this was happening. I don't think that Kurosaki really knows the whole truth about what happened back then (it seems like he was very junior at the time, at least) so I'm sure there's a lot to find out...

Well, the head nurse is Miwa's boss, so I guess it's harder to refuse her... I feel sorry for her still but I hope she stands up for herself more, too.

Takashina could be a good candidate, actually! He wrote a lot of papers after all. But maybe he's not experienced enough yet.

I think it makes sense to name Saeki on the paper. He didn't operate, but he's in charge of the whole department, so it's typical to put his name as last author. The whole team involved in the surgery was listed too, including the nurses, so I think it's just part of showing that this is a case report about a patient in Saeki's department. Takashina is still listed as the actual first author, at least. I suppose Tokai must have asked not to be listed, or else Takashina didn't even tell him about it at all.

A second season would be great :D

I'm sure he can write it quickly, especially since he has the old paper sitting on his computer still so he can reuse a lot of the discussion and references from that, but I don't think even the editor would just be able to publish it immediately without having it go through some review steps or getting permission from the Caesar manufacturer...

Miwa being obedient and bulliable does make a good reason for choosing her... poor Miwa.

4/16/19: Yes, I'm surprised at how much I've got to like Kurosaki as a character. In an earlier episode there was a part where Saeki told Takashina something about how maybe he could become a professor someday, and Kurosaki just made a really hurt face behind them... ever since then I've been enjoying his tragic facial expressions and hard life a lot.

6/23: He did enjoy that part!

12: I think it's Sakura hospital not Sakuranomiya hospital, because Sakuranomiya hospital was affiliated with Tojo? The author needs to think of more varied hospital names, haha.

I think permission is not that hard. I forgot the review process. Yeah, reviews can take a long time. But this is fictional drama anyway, so yeah, they kinda skip that process.
But since the beginning of this drama I have this one question that keep nagging in my mind. If the Saeki method is kinda like the top notch mitral surgery method and the paper got a high impact factor, how come only Saeki that can perform that procedure? From my understanding, impact factor is earned not just because of the novelty of a study, but how much it cited on other scientific articles, implying reproducibility of the study/method. In fact, all the papers that were shown in this drama are probably case reports. Which has a somewhat low evidence value, compared to a randomized controlled trials, or systematic review. That's the plot hole imho.
Still, I enjoy this medical drama so much.

So, there is only one episode left. And I still don't get the conclusion about Tokai's dad story and black pean. Saeki said there should only one black. Also Tokai said he will snatch it away. I hope last episode answer all my question.

+. I think his tear isn't really a manipulative tears. He did cry for not being able to save the patient on episode 1. So my assumption is that the meaning behind Tokai-sensei's order is "Go loose, say whatever you want and leave no regret behind"

Thank you sooooo much for all your hard work in subbing this! I'm sad it all ends today. I wish we could've maybe gotten one more episode because I'm not sure if /everything/ can be wrapped up properly in an hour+ but I'm still looking forward to it. I do wish the show would've focused a bit more on Tokai's intentions rather than his skills (although it's always great to see Nino being cool lmao)... The underlying conflict between him and Saeki is interesting to see play out between both but we only got bits of it... And now we're at the final episode. Ah. I wish more time had been spent on that apart from the weekly cases... I won't hold out hope for a s2 even though that would be exciting! I'm just sad we never got Tokai's backstory.... Especially how he met Nekota and what inspires her to go all murder-like with Miwa, heh. Same w/ Kinoshita! Well, anyhow! I'm excited for the final showdown! And whether what Nino suggested himself for the ending will happen.. or not!
