episode 2 spoilers

Updated 1 May.

1. Nino ♥♥♥♥♥
2. Nekota! :D
3. Please give Aoi more to do!
4. So many lefties in this episode! I feel like that's on the SNIPE manufacturer. Surely they should have thought about the existence of left-handed people at some point during its development.
5. I don't know why the surgeries where they just make a small incision are so much more horrible to look at than the open surgeries but for me they REALLY ARE. Good job I'm not a surgeon.
6. Man, they really don't want me to be able to translate "jama" consistently, do they?

I'll probably add more to this once I rewatch/sub.

7. The emergency patient transfer comes from “Sakuranomiya hospital”... I think this is more Team Batista continuity stuff? On Sera’s transfer form, he writes that he wants to be transferred to this hospital.
8. The journal editor is in on all this shady business too?? Wow :/

9. Tokai’s mum sent him even more rice, ahaha.

10. This argument between Tokai and Takashina about hypothetical future patients is SUCH BULLSHIT oh my god.

11. Yakiniku! What a cute factory boss :D

12. The scene where Sera runs upstairs to yell at Takashina... Saeki is really actually evil here. I do like Takashina much more after this episode though. And Nino (Tokai) smirking to himself in the back... great.

13. Sera’s panic at the end about apologising is adorable and hilarious XD.

14. Apparently Tokai pushing Sera’s stuff on the floor was an ad lib and the script just said “Tokai does something”.

The lines “Oh, you were watching? Why didn't you do it, then?” were also ad libbed by Nino.

15. This amused me: a short three minutes.

I'm not left-handed so I don't really know how it is, but it's not THAT rare, is it? I feel like the SNIPE tests in America should have realised about this problem too.

I definitely think Tokai lost the bet on purpose... maybe it's just wishful thinking though.

As for Aoi/Hanabusa, in terms of the character I don't mind only seeing her this much, but I just find it weird that she was featured so prominently in the promos if they're not going to give her anything to do. A nurse episode would definitely be cool, though.

Now that Takashina has left Tojo, I wonder how much he'll be in future episodes...

[identity profile] yumi-usagi.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to butt in. But I don’t think Takashina left Tojo. Because in the bet it said whoever lost would have to resign plus the money. And when Tokai came to the OR, he said the usual thing resign + money. So now they are equal on that? No one has to leave and pay money.

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're right - I must not have watched it enough times! Since he was packing his boxes at the end, I thought he was leaving, but then he didn't know the outcome of the bet about Sera yet at that point. Somehow I realised that the money was even but not the resignation letters :s

[identity profile] sarahjohnsf89.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I felt like Tokai was sort of on Takashina's side as well, like they way he makes the bets, I doubt he really thought Sera would quit, but then again.... Man the whole demon thing is too cool.
But I really agree on Tokia one point, if the snipe worked the way its supposed to, then a lot of unskilled surgeons would be trying it out without considering all the factors that could cause trouble. You need to be skilled, I really wish the other doctor the one who switched hands quit, he always gets Tokia to do his surgery and still bad mouths him.

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Tokai, Takashina and Saeki all have a very interesting dynamic, I think. None of them are 100% enemies or 100% allies.

Is it Sekikawa who switched hands? He doesn't seem to be very good at his job, you're right.

[identity profile] tropical-chou.livejournal.com 2018-04-29 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
i just watched it too!! even though i don't understand Japanese... just can't stand the spoiler in my twitter TL until i gratefully get my hands on the sub so i decided that i'd better spoil myself all the way through! Anyway, it was great and nino was the best! couldn't agree more. Thanks for the coming sub!

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-01 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Should be up soon - hope you enjoy it even with spoilers!

[identity profile] merakiable.livejournal.com 2018-05-01 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
I noticed you've been silent in twitter :( but thank God you're quite active in translating stuff here in your LJ! Thanks for picking up Black Pean, and for all the commentaries! I'm not a doctor nor a med student but these are really helpful in understanding the situations in the ep!

Haha I agree with you in that Aoi doesn't seem to do a lot. I guess he's the counterpart of Ryoma -- brimming with empathy and hope and light in their dark surgery department! I just hope that the writers wouldn't bring unnecessary romantic plot between the two --- as this ep has focused more on the looks of Aoi to Ryoma, compared to the last ep!

Also, Nekota and Tokai make up a great team - iron-hearted but competent. Haha. I hope she has a bigger role than just being his assisting nurse.

Looking forward to more of your thoughts and your subs! Again, thank you!!!

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-01 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I did tweet a few times! But there are a few people following me on twitter who don't want spoilers over there, so I'm trying not to post about BP too much there.

Yeah, I'm not really interested in a romance plot, either. Anyway, there's no time for that, either in the episodes or in their lives, haha.

Subs should be up soon :)

For point 4: wasn't the issue that the dude changed hands after the placement? If he would have used his left hand the whole time, maybe it would have worked out? Since the angle would have been the same the whole time.

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-01 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That does make sense - i don't think he switched hands when they were practicing, after all. Maybe that needs to be warned for in the snipe manual.

ahhhhh! supee good episode!!
i am so happy with nekotaaa! i’m hoping for more nekota action in the next episodes (maybe even a back story or something haha)!! also, “you think you’re the most afraid?” u go tell th, gurl.

the scene where the factory boss was trying to comfort his wife and gave way to sera’s major character development, i am in tears huhuhu.

I JUST WANT TO PUNCH SAEKI IN THE FACE. he is the evil one afterall. gaaah. and i hated it that he planned the failure, and somehow wanted to make a grand entrance to ~save~ the patient. augh.

i agree , sera’s panic was really funny. you can see how good an actor ryoma is to be switching from drama to comedy just like thaaat!

nino’s adlibs are on point, HAHAHAHA,

thank you for subbing so fast!! 💛

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ryoma and Nino are both doing great work :D
And Nekota's "you think you're the most afraid" was such a good line.

Saeki SUCKS. He probably wanted to go into the OR and save the day himself, but Tokai got there first. In your face, Saeki :p

Factory boss was so cute, but he and his wife were hard to understand;;

1. Tokai is the worst coworker ever, even though he's skilled, but so amusing to watch!
6. When I heard "睡眠の邪魔" I was wondering how you'd translate that since you can't really stick to 'move'
12. I really hate Saeki. He seems to be aware of the risks during surgeries but doesn't do anything to mitigate them, even though he has the ability to prevent them from happening, or at least warn the operating surgeon. And he just seems to smug, I can't even stand the way he speaks XD but I do like Takashina a lot more after choosing to operate in this episode
14. Man, Nino's ad libs are the best parts!
15. Hahaha I didn't notice that the first time I watched it, but that's funny!

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
6. As soon as he said it, I was like "ahh COME ON" :(
TBS, why don't you consider my problems? Haha.

[identity profile] chesnee.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you again for the subbing :)

I really enjoyed the second episode! There was some interaction between Tokai and Sera besides "jama" :D
I agree that the issue of "skilled surgeons will be unnecesary thanks to this amazing device" is really annoying because... couldn't they coexist? But I guess they need some other rivalry besides the professors' impact factors.
It might be a personal thing but I find Sera's constant crying seriously annoying. I find myself saying loudly while watching "get it together, dude!" I mean, who agonizes over everything and cries all the time?
Also, what I find hilarious in most Japanese dramas, a character can't experience anything without an "audience", it's always someone passing by and watching. Like - what was the purpose of Aoi overhearing the talk between Sera and Takashina? Or her watching him crying after the first operation? What's up with that? :D
But I love, love, love this drama and I rewatch it constantly so thanks again!! I hope it'll only get better in the next episodes.
PS. Will you think of subbing the documentary?

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the surgeons vs tech thing seems very exaggerated. Even if the snipe is accepted, it can only do one kind of operation, anyway!

It probably isn't true but I am choosing to imagine that Aoi is deliberately spying on him for nefarious purposes, haha.

Sera's crying doesn't bother me yet, but even after only watching one episode my husband was making fun of his "single tear" scenes.

As for the documentary, you mean the navi? If no one has subbed it by the time the drama is done, I'll think about it I guess, but it will probably go in a locked comm if so.

[identity profile] chesnee.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
My husband was laughing that a patient is (supposedly) dying and the doctors are sitting around and arguing, instead of saving his life :D
It's sad that there are no powerful women's characters, the only ones are nurses and they neither speak nor do much :(
I did mean the navi, thanks for your efforts!

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There do seem to be a few female doctors and residents in background shots, at least, but it would definitely be nice to have a more prominent female character.

[identity profile] sarahjohnsf89.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the same thing, snipe can only do one kind of operation, but their are other surgeries that need competent surgeons, the fact that it is something Sakei is pretty much known for is probably why he is fighting so much against it
I don't keno whose side Tokia is though, he does try new tech we know this from the first episode. And he defended Takashina and even the bet felt like Tokai was giving him and out.
It's all so exciting to think about.
But, that end with the lung scans again! What does it mean?
Is it why Tokai has to fight Sakei under handedly? So many questions...

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely want to know what Tokai is up to. It seems like he has a goal or something motivating him that's more important than his rivalries with Sekai and Takashina...

[identity profile] irene-purin.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
1 and 2. SAME REACTION! I LOVE NEKOTA!~

3. YES honestly. But seeing how they warned her not to get close to Nekota, given the usual drama flow, there is a possibility that she will interact with Nekota~ we'll see though~

4. Exactly my thought, given that Sera is also left-handed! But I think it's interesting to learn from a left-handed doctor when you're left-handed~
Might be an unpopular thoughts regarding Tokai as a mentor, I think he's a good mentor. Yes, he does suddenly get Sera to do the stitching, but he knew that Sera practiced that, and he stayed till he ensured that there was no problem with Sera's stitches. He might just be doing that to see if Sera is useful or no, but I do think that his method is fair given his skills and observation~

8. Completely agreed!

9. EXACTLY MY THOUGHT! He has 2 in the room now XDD
I wonder if he shares it with Nekota though since he 'technically' shares the room with her~

12. Same. Takashina himself looks like a good person. His obsession with SNIPE is real though LOL I can see why they have "Legend of SNIPE" poster on the official Twitter account XDD
I also love how Takashina knows how to get Tokai into the game: he proposed 100,000,000 yen to get him into the bet about Sera XDD

13. YES YES! XD
And Takashina's suggestion "quickly apologize" is also cute imo XD

14. Nino did LOTS of great adlibs! I think that's one reason why his co-actors' reactions become all gold as well, especially Takashina's expression on "Oh you were watching?" XD
Also, the adlib with the pushing Sera's stuffs, I can somehow see Nino doing that XDD

Additional note: I LOVE how Nekota actually brought the SNIPE guidebook to the sleeping room. It's like, yes Tokai and Nekota sleeps a lot, but I think they do work hard to reach the level where they can sleep, be called, and perform A++ action right after waking up. Tokai himself actually has a lot of book in that room, and he did check Minagawa-san's condition before the surgery. They are well-prepared to be able to relax imo~

Thank you very much for subbing this!
Really look forward to next episode >v

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-02 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
3. Oh that would be cool!

4. Yeah, I really think he asked Sera to do everything to improve/test his skills, not just as bullying or whatever. Although I'm not sure I'd enjoy having a mentor like that in real life...

+ I noticed that too. Even though she looked asleep and bored in the training meeting, Nekota was properly studying it too. What a good character :)

[identity profile] irene-purin.livejournal.com 2018-05-03 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
4. I completely agree LOL
That type of mentor is the one who train his mentee by throwing them into a cliff and see if they can climb back up after learning how to climb well. I will be really anxious if my mentor teaches me that way for sure XDD

+ Yes!! And her quote saying “Do you think that you’re the only one who’s afraid” is also really good and on point! Like, you won’t say that had you not seen and gone through enough~ She really is a great char! Love Nekota so much!!! >v

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That really was a great line :D
I saw the official accounts posted some photos of Nekota this week, so hopefully they will give her more to do in future episodes too :)

[identity profile] sarahjohnsf89.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so so much, this series is so captivating, I'm loving Tokai and hating him and admiring him, Nino doesn't let me settle. So action packed. Wow!

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2018-05-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome - I'm glad you're enjoying it! I think Nino is doing a great job. Tokai is an interesting character and seems to suit Nino well.
