I felt like translating something Black Pean related as a warm-up, so here is a translation of vol. 1 of the information page on the show's website.

In this section, we'll ask the show's medical supervisor Dr Yamagishi various questions related to Black Pean.
Volume 1: What is a "medical supervisor"?

Script planning
This time, I took part starting from the script phase and met with the staff many times in advance. We talked about all kinds of things, like what a heart surgeon thinks and worries about every day, what makes them happy and what they are afraid of. There are many different kinds of heart surgeons with different ways of thinking and personalities, living with conflicts, envy and jealousy, pulling each other back, trying to protect themselves, making an honest effort every day, trying to look cool or trying to show off. As well as that, I told the staff about what kind of education I received as a resident, what sorts of surgeons there were and so on, giving specific descriptions of my experiences. Everything that happens in the Black Pean scripts is something that could really happen. The show has many richly-drawn characters like Tokai, Sera and Takashina, and I really do know heart surgeons who are like that.

Attending the recordings
I also get to attend the recordings, aiming to make them as realistic as possible, together with the actors. I work with an operating room nurse who works at the same hospital so that the layout of tools in the operating room and on the instrument table matches what we really use. We reproduce everything realistically, including how blood comes out in the operating field, how blood stains the surgical drapes and how blood sticks to the actors' gowns (scrubs). The actors practiced various different movements. For example, gowns are quite difficult to put on, so I made everyone practice, and by about the third time we filmed a surgery Ninomiya could put his gown on in a really fast, cool way - maybe even faster than me. Everyone practiced tying thread a lot too, and I think they learned it faster than some surgical residents do, so they could even pass as real surgeons. In the suturing scenes, Tokai, Sera, Takashina, Saeki and everyone really stiches the heart model, ties the thread and cuts it with Metzenbaum (surgical) scissors. The scrub nurses, Nekota and Fujiwara, are as good as real scrub nurses and might even be able to pass as the real thing too, which honestly surprises me.

Ninomiya and the others are very dextrous, and they can even learn complex movements after I show them just once for the rehearsal, so in the real take they already act like a first-rate heart surgery team, which honestly surprised me. In some ways, I often feel embarrassed when they only need minutes to be better than me at techniques that took me over ten years to learn. Actually, I'm the one who has learned a lot from these first-rate actors.

Q. What kind of tool is the "pean" mentioned in the title?
A pean is a tool for clamping shut relatively strong tissues, tubes or materials. It is shaped like a pair of scissors, and can have curved or straight tips. The "black pean" that appears in the drama is a special object created for Professor Saeki to use during surgery. For Professor Saeki, using the black pean = a successful operation.

You're quite welcome! It seems like he'd be good at it, but I'm glad he's an idol instead, haha.
